Gratuitous Fact About My Childhood Wednesday:

I was 11 when I read “Live From New York” and decided I had to be a writer and actor on SNL. I taped a whole fake episode and mailed it to Lorne Michaels when I was 12. Wrote the cast letters — everyone — and some of the staff, too. I was like the worst blog commenter fangirl ever, but on VHS, doing a Dieter impersonation in a black turtleneck.

A friend just asked me what he should be doing to get ready for SXSW this year, so here you go, too:

- Make an iPhone portable schedule for yourself w/ SCHED (2009 will be up soon to replace 2008’s, here: http://sxsw2008.sched.org/) and use that to keep track of things. That way you can recycle the terrible program immediately, which doesn’t list the unofficial parties anyway.

- SXSW is old school and a lot of parties end up publicized on Upcoming.

- Don’t miss the 32 Bit party Scott’s throwing w/ Get Satisfaction et al. Last year was 16, year previous was 8. Good times, plus you get to see Thor & Amy Muller throw down to Love Will tear Us Apart. Amazing.

We sat in silence for a while. Outside, it began to snow.

“Have you ever loved anyone?”

I told her briefly about Ludefisk, my girlfriend from second semester freshman year. She smiled at me.

“And you loved her?” I said that I think I did. She nodded. Lit another cigarette. We sat in silence for a while. Then, as if a lighter came under overhead sprinklers, we both began weeping.

“I don’t even know what’s on TV anymore,” she said.

“No. Me neither. When’s the last time you ate bread?”

“I can’t remember.”
